Athens, Tennessee is a small, cozy town nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and within an hour drive to Chattanooga or Knoxville or 30 minutes to Cleveland, Tennessee. Athens still retains a certain amount of charm and southern hospitality which has been a part of its heritage through the years. This is seen in the downtown business area, with its quaint buildings and shops, when things were simpler and life was less hectic. Athens is home to Tennessee Wesleyan College, a private liberal arts college that awards baccalaureate and master''s degrees of business, fine arts, as well as nursing, and teacher certification, etc. Through these academic offerings the college has developed a close relationship with the area and produces a large number of local teachers, police officers, lawyers and local government officials.

The Psychologist is located in the Mental Health Care Line, Mental Health Section at the Athens, TN Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The incumbent reports to the Chief of CBOCs. Major duties of the position are:
Providing a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care
Performing evaluations for psych diagnosis, treatment planning and functional evaluations
Providing the full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, consultation, rehabilitation and psychoeducation
Consulting with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Staff Clinical psychologists maybe involved in program evaluation and/or research activities
Providing psychological consultation to Primary Care providers and interventions for primary care patients identified with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses (e.g. depression, anxiety disorders, and substance misuse), as well as psychological factors affecting their physical condition (e.g. sleep disturbances, treatment compliance, and pain management) in the setting of a Behavioral Health Laboratory model
Using the Behavioral Health Laboratory software program, structured diagnostic interviews, and appropriate psychological testing to provide quality care
Providing a full range of brief, solution focused therapeutic interventions to primary care patients not currently established with a mental health provider. Such interventions include cognitive and behavioral techniques, behavioral interventions, supportive therapy, and, when appropriate, insight-oriented therapy
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Education. A doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed; _AND_ have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.
Licensure. Hold a full ,current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico),or the District of Columbia.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
In addition to the basic requirements, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations; 2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health; 3. Knowledge of clinical research literature.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
